The most Unexpected & the most accepted
The land of BBQ and big belt buckles, Texas is the most unlikely candidate for a new business offering sushi.
Nori Sushi took the Midwest by storm delivering fresh flown in Omakase grade sushi on a fast food American circuit. locking in our land locked cities to a beautiful tradition centered around the sea.
We explored creating the void, the rhythm of torii gates, the smell of Hiroki - Japanese Cypress, a procession of curated moments for Nori.
An Unexpected portal to an unknown world
We drew inspiration from the time we spent sleeping on couches in Japan, working in carpentry shops for ramen noodles and scraping just enough money to buy 1 of 6 seats at secret world renown kaiseki shops. While we were backpacking on shoe string budgets and avoiding calls from our mom's knowing they couldn't understand why being homeless in Japan was the first choice after university, we loved it and knew this would have a tremendous impact on our understanding not just for design but life experience.
From the Gates to the detailing to the traditional Sho Sugi Ban burning of our wood finishes, we employed a rationally modernist approach and a haptic sense of touch.
